Instructional Design Services at Bowie State University

The Instructional Design Services team at Bowie State University offers comprehensive support to faculty across all teaching modalities, including in-person, blended, and online. The team partners with instructors to design high-quality, engaging, and accessible courses, while enhancing teaching effectiveness through strategic training and individualized guidance.

Instructional designers collaborate with faculty to plan courses, refine learning objectives, develop assessments, and integrate educational technologies. They also produce multimedia content, ensure compliance with accessibility standards, maintain quality assurance, and manage project timelines to ensure all instructional design initiatives are completed efficiently.

Key Areas of Support

Course Design and Refinement

Collaborate with faculty to design and structure courses using established templates and the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS). Review existing content, provide expert recommendations for improvement, and refine learning goals to enhance the student learning experience.

Learning Activities and Assessment Strategies

Develop practical learning activities and assessment methods that align with course objectives and accurately measure student performance.

Learning Technologies

Recommend and support the integration of innovative technologies that strengthen student engagement and improve learning outcomes.

Multimedia Development

Guide and assist faculty in creating instructional videos, graphics, and interactive multimedia elements to support diverse learning needs and promote a more profound understanding.

Accessibility and Compliance

Ensure all instructional materials meet accessibility and compliance standards, including ADA and copyright regulations, to provide equitable access for all learners.

Quality Assurance and Course Building

Conduct comprehensive reviews of courses to uphold institutional quality standards and pedagogical integrity. Build and optimize online courses within Blackboard to ensure alignment with best practices in instructional design and learning management.

Training and Support

Provide ongoing training and consultation for faculty on effective teaching methods, course design principles, and educational technology use. Offer direct support for Blackboard LMS and online teaching tools.

Project Management

Oversee project timelines and workflows to ensure timely and efficient delivery of instructional design projects.
