    The National Science Foundation has awarded Bowie State University $399,999 to enhance artificial intelligence research and education. Additionally, the Entrepreneurship Innovation Center and the Department of Management Information Systems are collaborating to create an online pathway tool for entrepreneurs on campus and in the local community.

    October 2024

    Rosalynne Whitaker-Heck, Ed.D., APR, has joined the Office of the Provost as the Associate Vice President for Retention and Student Success. Dr. Karen Cook Bell, Director of the BSU Du Bois Center for the Study of the Black Experience (CSBE), and Dr. Festus Cole, Co-Director of the Du Bois Center, received a $63,426 grant from the National Park Service.

    Dean Sophia Sotilleo represents the university at the UN Roundtable on Education and Banned Books, advocating for academic freedom and access to education. Faculty from the College of Professional Studies are conducting groundbreaking research on followership and presenting their findings internationally.

    April 2024

    Dr. Matasha Harris expanded global engagement through research in South Africa. Fifteen students immersed in Panamanian culture during a study abroad program. Dr. Karen Cook Bell appointed General Editor for Cambridge History of Black Women in the US.

    The Student Success Center's tutoring program has gained national recognition, Dr. Karen Cook Bell has earned a prestigious fellowship for her research, and Dr. Philip de Melo's expertise in public health informatics is highlighted in his new book.

    Dr. Monifa Love has been honored for her lifetime achievements in Caribbean thought, Dr. Tia Young has shed light on the challenges faced by Black women-owned businesses, and Dr. Gaye Acikdilli has explored customer loyalty in the Turkish insurance market.

    The Future of Work: Exploring AI in HR and Advancing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Symposium explored AI's potential in HR, emphasizing both opportunities and challenges. A historical reflection on education in Prince George's County underscored the enduring importance of equitable access and critical thinking.

    A math student presented groundbreaking quantum computing research at a national conference, while the Chair of Nursing was selected for a prestigious leadership program. Additionally, over 300 students were recognized for academic excellence at a university-wide celebration.

    BSU faculty achieved recognition at a teaching and learning conference. The College of Business received an award, and the Du Bois Center secured a grant for a community-focused project on African American history in Maryland.
