Dr. Debra A. Mahone
Founder & Executive Director, Mahone Education Empowerment Fund
Dr. Debra A. Mahone is founder and chief executive officer of the Mahone Education Empowerment Fund, a non-profit designed to promote equity and resources to high poverty schools. She is a highly skilled educational leader experienced in school reform, program and leadership development, curriculum and technology integration. Her experience includes diverse positions, including executive leadership, school administration and supervision, and talent development. She has also served as an adjunct professor at Howard University and George Washington University. She received a master’s degree in school administration and supervision from Bowie State University.
In June of 2017, Dr. Mahone was awarded the Excellence in Education Award by the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation for her contribution to quality education for all children. Dr. Mahone continues to consult with independent organizations, private and public schools and school districts across the country, to actualize their vision, mission, goals and performance metrics around student achievement, teacher and administrator leadership, blended learning environments and comprehensive school reform.
Dr. Mahone has a passion for philanthropic service and is a board member of the Greater Washington Community Foundation of Prince George’s County where she served as co-chair of the Community Leadership Awards (CLA) program for the past two years. The Community Leadership Awards program is designed to recognize the invaluable contributions of individuals who are models of good citizenship and civic participation. During the 2019 CLA awards, Dr. Mahone will launch the inaugural Ambassador Program, which she conceived to connect non-profit organizations to business and community donors.
In addition to her personal commitment to education and civic responsibility, Dr. Mahone is a member of The Society, Incorporated, a national organization devoted to promoting the arts by exposing students to local and national artists and cultural activities. Dr. Mahone has co-chaired the UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball for two consecutive years and shares its mission to recognize, promote and nurture opportunities for underrepresented youth.
