SFS Cohorts

The SFS program in our Computer Science department organizes students into cohorts, groups of scholars who receive funding during the same academic year. These cohorts create communities that extend well beyond graduation, connecting future government cybersecurity professionals through shared experiences and common goals.

What Our Cohorts Provide

Each cohort consists of students who begin the program together. Members take specialized courses, participate in training exercises, and build networks that prove valuable throughout their careers.

Our program includes regular seminars with government cybersecurity leaders, facility tours of Security Operations Centers, and professional development workshops. Students learn to navigate clearance processes, write government resumes, and understand federal employment structures.

Scholars secure paid summer internships with government organizations, gaining hands-on experience while exploring potential agencies for their post-graduation service commitment.

Building Professional Networks

Cohort members form connections across government agencies and levels. Alumni return to share placement experiences, and we organize events bringing together multiple cohorts. Within cohorts, students collaborate on research projects, form study groups, and compete together in cybersecurity challenges.

Our cohorts include students with varied specializations: network security, industrial control systems, forensics, and policy analysis. This diversity enriches discussions and creates mentorship opportunities between graduate and undergraduate students.
