A Bachelor of Science in Accounting prepares you to become a vital asset to any public, private or nonprofit organization in the market. Our accounting program prepares you to identify significant discrepancies or irregularities in financial patterns and develop solutions to correct them. You’ll develop quantitative and qualitative skills and learn to apply high accounting standards to the U.S. and global economies.
When you complete your accounting degree, you’ll know how to create, analyze, update and maintain financial and business reports. You will apply classroom skills to real-world scenarios in taxation, pricing decisions, compliance and auditing. At Bowie State, you develop highly competitive skills in quantitative methods, managing accounting information systems, and forecasting to support decision-making across various industries and fields.

You will also have access to our innovative Data Analytics Research, Teaching and Trading Lab, known as the DARTT Lab, located in the College of Business. The interdisciplinary research lab is focused on solving large-scale data analytics problems that arise in different domains, including social networks, health care, science, retail and business. It provides an invaluable tool for gaining real-world experience under the guidance of skilled faculty members. The DARTT Lab creates opportunities for you to connect with faculty and peers and enhance your data management, data analytics, financial trading and research skills.
To earn your Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Bowie State University, you must complete a minimum of 121 credits.
The degree program is divided into three primary requirements, outlined below:

The Bowie State chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants hosts many activities for students, from career fairs to panel discussions with CPA firm professionals.

Scholarships
Once you enroll at Bowie State University, you will automatically receive a list of scholarships you qualify for, based on the SAT/ACT scores and GPA provided on your admission application. Review each scholarship’s requirements and apply to as many as possible. You are also encouraged to apply for private donor, departmental and external partner scholarships.
