Greek Life
Joining a fraternity or sorority is an excellent way to get involved on campus. The Office of Greek Life supports an engaging community lifestyle that inspires students to become involved outside of the classroom by building a sense of belonging through brotherhood and sisterhood, character development, and academic initiatives.
Greek-Letter Organizations instill in their members the importance of maintaining high moral, social, intellectual and academic standards.
Membership provides opportunities for friendship, academic excellence, community service, campus involvement, personal/professional growth, social development, mentoring, and networking.
Membership is based on very specific criteria, which is set forth by each organization and the University. Students seeking membership must meet the following criteria:
Non-Transfer students must have the following:
- Have a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA (Please be aware that Greek Letter Organizations may have a higher individual GPA requirement. The higher GPA requirement will apply)
- Obtained a minimum of 30 credits at Bowie State University (indicated on a BSU transcript)
- Be a full-time, degree-seeking, undergraduate student registered for a minimum of 12 credits

Greek 101
Students who are seeking membership in a fraternity, sorority, or social fellowship are required to attend Greek 101. Greek 101 is a discussion panel and forum held during the Fall and Spring semesters that gives students the opportunity to learn about Greek Life from current Greek members. Also, students will learn more about non-hazing policies from a qualified expert on the subject. All students interested in Greek Life must attend Greek 101 during the semester they wish to participate in membership intake.
