Student Opportunities
Internal Programs
- Global Research Experiences
Students with a strong background in biology have the opportunity to work with researchers in Kenya to uncover potential health benefits of native plants with BSU’s global experience program. - Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CURE) Program
The Department of Natural Science has developed a program which provide students with the opportunity to conduct research within the core Biology curriculum at BSU. - Student Freedom Initiative
The program targets students at HBCUs to relieve student loan debt with an income-based funding alternative to Parent PLUS and private educational loan programs. Bowie State students majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields are eligible to participate in this new initiative. - McNair Scholars
This is a nationally recognized program which provides undergraduate students with professional development and preparation for graduate school. - Summer Undergraduate Research Institute (SURI)
This program supports research training and professional development at Bowie State University for 10-weeks during the summer. - Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP)
The Department of Natural Science is a part of the Hampton Roads Consortium of LSAMP. This program offers paid summer research experience and professional development to Bowie Students. - Minority Association of Premedical Students (M.A.P.S.)
M.A.P.S. is different from other organizations at Bowie State University because we would be the only organization on campus whose purpose is to serve underrepresented minority students seeking to gain admittance to health professional schools. M.A.P.S. exists to extend the mission of the Student National Medical Association, which is to increase the number of African-American, Latino, and other students of color entering and completing medical school. We plan to give our members tools and resources so they will be successful during the admission process as well as developing them into a well-rounded individual. Apply for M.A.P.S
