Department of Nursing
Simulation Resource Center
Bowie State’s Department of Nursing is housed in the award-winning Center for Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Nursing—one of the region’s premier facilities for transformational learning and research.
The state-of-the-art nursing wing reflects the latest thinking in nursing education and enables students to hone their critical thinking and judgment. Students learn basic skills in a 12-station skills lab that simulates a hospital setting. Later, they refine clinical expertise in patient simulation rooms and a pediatric simulation lab, equipped with high-fidelity manikins, which include a birthing mother, five pediatric manikins and and eight infants. A cardiac and pulmonary manikin, or Harvey, allows students to practice listening to the heart and lungs through a stethoscope.
Full medical assessments are performed in an examination suite that features medical records stations. The nursing wing also includes debriefing rooms where faculty can provide an immediate review of students’ activity. The simulation center is designed to flexibly change as new educational strategies emerge.
