  • We hire undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates to serve as mentors, senior mentors, tutors, supplemental instructors, and office assistants.

    Information Sessions

    We are offering virtual and in-person information sessions on the dates listed below. You may register for an information session using this link:

    • Thursday, November 7, 2:00-3:30 pm, TBD (check back for location)
    • Wednesday, November 20, 4:00-5:30 p.m., Student Center, Baltimore-Columbia Room
    • Wednesday, December 4, 4:00-5:30 p.m.

    Consideration for employment is not contingent upon attending; however, we strongly recommend that interested applicants join us to learn about the application process and job expectations. Applicants who register online will receive email updates.

    Group Interviews

    A select number of applicants will be invited to in-person group interviews. Those who are not selected for further consideration will be notified by email no later than February 12. Group interviews are by invitation only.

    • June 23-August 2: Bulldog Scholars Academy in session. Due to the nature of the position, all employees must have 100% availability during this time period. Staff are not permitted to take classes, vacation, or work a second job.

    All positions are residential. Residency begins June 9 and extends through August 2, 2025. Employees receive a stipend plus free room and board. 

     Available Positions


  • Operation Navigation employs high achieving upperclassmen (Navigators) to help first-year scholars navigate the college experience. Navigators serve as big brothers/sisters. They maintain contact during the first year by checking in regularly and attending ELSS and university-sponsored events with their scholars. This consistent contact ensures that scholars have support navigating social issues and connecting with campus resources. Navigators commit to: 

    • checking in with scholars once a week,
    • attending a minimum of three BSA or university-sponsored in-person or virtual events with scholars,
    • participating in training and professional development activities,
    • role modeling integrity and trustworthiness, and
    • documenting navigator-scholar interactions.

    Becoming a Navigator

    Undergraduates who will have earned 24 credits by the beginning of the fall semester and meet the standards outlined below are invited to apply to serve as Navigators. We are looking for individuals who successfully navigated work-life balance during their first year and are eager to share their experiences with new students. Navigators have:
    • earned a 3.0 cumulative grade point average or above,
    • obtained a minimum of 24 credits by the end of the spring semester,
    • full-time undergraduate status,
    • no judicial or residence life infractions,
    • demonstrated strong leadership skills, and
    • ability to commit to a full academic year of service.

    Apply to Work for Operation Navigation 

  • To support participants' academic development, we offer supplemental instruction. Supplemental Instructors (SIs) attend class with scholars and offer group and individual sessions outside of class. 

    Duties and Expectations

    • Attend assigned course: take notes related to course content and assignments and model professional behavior
    • Offer supplemental instruction and tutoring sessions outside of class: meet students in small groups and individually to review course material, brush up on discipline-related skills, and discuss study strategies. 
    • Complete administrative duties: document attendance during supplemental instruction sessions; submit weekly plan to supplemental instruction manager; administer mid-term assessment survey.
    • Build professional relationship with faculty and ELSS staff: maintain an open line of communication with faculty; provide students with a weekly supplemental instruction agenda; maintain consistent contact with students in person and electronically.
    • Attend training sessions and meetings with SI manager.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Earned A or B in courses related to supplemental instruction/tutoring content area.
    • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA.
    • Undergraduate with 24 or more credit hours OR graduate student.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • To support participants' academic development, we offer tutorial services in math and writing. Tutors meet individually with scholars outside of class to support content mastery and skills development.

    Duties and Expectations

    • Offer tutoring sessions outside of class: meet students in small groups and individually to review course material, reinforce discipline-related skills, and discuss study strategies. 
    • Complete administrative duties: document attendance during supplemental instruction sessions; submit weekly plan to supplemental instruction manager; administer mid-term assessment survey.
    • Build professional relationship with ELSS staff.
    • Attend training sessions and meetings with ELSS staff.
    • Other duties as assigned.

  • We hire Computer Lab and Office Assistants on an annual basis through the Federal Work Study Program. 

    Computer Lab Assistant Duties and Expectations

    •  Manage sign-in process and refer students who are not associated with ELSS to alternative locations.
    • Submit sign-in sheets and reports to ELSS staff.
    • Greet students and assist with basic computer and copier issues; refer complicated issues to DIT or ELSS staff.
    • Staff Power Hour study sessions.
    • Maintain cleanliness and order in the lab.
    • Disinfect work stations.
    • report maintenance and computer issues to ELSS staff.
    • Generate copier codes for ELSS participants.
    • Restock copier paper.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Office Assistant Duties and Expectations

    • Greet visitors and address questions.
    • Become acquainted with room locations, offices, and departments in the Proctor Building in order to assist students and other visitors.
    • Shred documents.
    • Ensure that the copier is stocked with paper and that the area around copier is organized and well maintained.
    • Ensure that the supply room is well organized and free of clutter.
    • Ensure that flyers and business cards are well stocked in lobby.
    • Update ELSS bulletin boards.
    • Hang posters and distribute marketing materials
    • Assist ELSS staff with copying and other administrative duties.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Eligible for the Federal Work Study program
    • Currently enrolled student in good academic standing
    • Strong customer service, organization, and communication skills

  • The Graphic Design Intern designs brochures, posters, flyers, web content, t-shirts, branded products, infographics, and other materials to support communication and branding efforts.  

    Duties & Responsibilities

    The Graphic Design Intern performs a range of duties related to promoting and communicating the work of the Office of Engaged Learning and Student Support, including:

    • effectively and compellingly communicating the office’s mission, goals, and vision through graphics and design;
    • creating, updating, and distributing brochures, flyers, posters, newsletters, and other print materials to support and advertise program activities;
    • developing graphic content for social media; creating logos;
    • complying with Bowie State University's marketing and branding standards;
    • collaborating with program administrators to design infographics and other content; and
    • other duties as assigned.

    The Office of Engaged Learning and Student Support will provide access to computers, design software, copiers, and other resources.

    Qualifications

    The Graphic Design Intern must have knowledge of design principles; strong oral communications skills; ability to conceptualize, design, and produce original content using a variety of media; ability to tailor communications to different audiences; ability to communicate ideas graphically; proven track record of collaboration; proficiency using Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator; and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. The Intern should be currently enrolled in a VCDMA degree track.
