What Are Primary Elections?

Primary elections are how political parties pick their candidates for the general election. In Maryland, you usually need to be registered with a party to vote in its primary. Some nonpartisan races let all voters participate.

Voter Registration

Need to register to vote? Want to check if you are already registered? You’re in the right place.

Check Your Registration

It is important to check if you are registered to vote, even if you are confident that you have registered in the past. Voters are sometimes (though infrequently) unregistered for a variety of reasons (you didn’t respond to an inquiry, you were marked inactive, etc.). You should also double-check that your listed name, address, and party identification (if any) are correct.

Check your voter registration status in the state of Maryland.

For residents of other states, you can use the Vote411 website to find the link for your state.
