As an English major, you will study compelling literature and explore new languages and cultures. You will also:
- Become a critical reader and writer able to analyze and interpret information in a wide range of contexts
- Understand how language is used to persuade, dissuade, and shape perspectives
- Explore different cultures through the lens of literature, language and film
- Learn how to teach English to others
- Travel: Our Spanish and English Study Abroad opportunities take students to countries such as Mexico, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and the United Kingdom to immerse themselves in Hispanic culture and Anglophone culture.
- Develop: Work one-on-one or in group sessions with writing consultants in the Smith Vidal Literacy & Language Center. There, students can get the tools they need to refine their writing and prepare for the English Proficiency Exam.
- Experience: Hear special guest lecturers discuss significant cultural and societal issues like race, religion, civil rights, and LGBT inclusion.
- Join: Students can enhance their studies and build a professional network by contributing to our creative writing journal, participating in Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society, or presenting at conferences such as the College English Association-Middle Atlantic Group and the South Atlantic Modern Language Association
