Bowie State University Welcomes Marilyn Mosby as Keynote for Constitution Day

(BOWIE, Md.) – Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby will serve as keynote speaker for this year’s Constitution Day event. The virtual program will take place on Friday, September 17 from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. Attendees must register for the event.
Constitution Day is a day that recognizes the ratification of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, and this year marks 234 years of its existence.
“The Constitution is the oldest, single written constitution in the world. It amazes me because the country is still relatively young,” said Dr. Carmen Walker, organizer for Constitution Day and Associate Professor of Government, BSU Department of History and Government. “Considering all that has happened in the country, our Constitution has withstood a civil war and politics, and therefore we use September 17 to recognize the significance of the American Constitution.”
The event, which is federally mandated by the Department of Education to receive federal funds, also provides an opportunity for BSU international students to be acknowledged. Also known as Constitution Citizenship Day, the occasion recognizes newly naturalized citizens and how the U.S. Constitution has evolved to protect its citizens. It’s a reminder of the privileges and responsibilities that accompany American citizenship.
State's Attorney Mosby's passion has always been to effectuate change by driving a more just, efficient, and fair criminal justice system. As the 25th State’s Attorney for Baltimore City, Mosby was the youngest chief prosecutor of any major American city at the time of her election in 2015. Her Conviction Integrity Unit has successfully exonerated nine wrongfully-incarcerated men since she took office.
